Birthrate Plus® launches workforce planning methodology review

Update….. Birthrate Plus® Workforce Planning Methodology Review

Midwifery is a dynamic profession that has always been subject to changes in practice, policy, standards, demographics, and the needs of women and their families. In line with this, over the three decades Birthrate Plus® has operated we have periodically, systematically, reviewed our approach to assure it continues to reflect modern practice.

Over the next five months we will be undertaking such a review. This will be done in close partnership with maternity services, the profession and national partners, including the The Royal College of Midwives (RCM), and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG. We have also discussed with NHS England. The review will be independently chaired by Birte Harlev-Lam, OBE supported by the Birthrate Plus® team.

The review is also an opportunity for us to hear from services about how we could improve Birthrate Plus®. Therefore, we will circulate a survey in the coming months that will allow feedback on all aspects of Workforce Planning, as well as suggestions of how we can improve the tool, how it is delivered and supported. We are keen to hear feedback from as many services who have used or have experience of Birthrate Plus® as possible.

The review will be completed by January 2026. Further information will be regularly posted on our website Birthrateplus.co.uk and via our LinkedIn page Birthrate Plus®
