Birthrate Plus® fully supports the recommendations of Baroness Amos’s Independent Investigation into Maternity and Neonatal Services in England which are designed to address failings in maternity care and ensure high quality, safe and inclusive care. We were grateful to be able to contribute to the review and will continue to offer our support building on thirty years of experience in maternity workforce planning.
In her report Baroness Amos clearly sets out the rapidly changing factors that are impacting on the working lives of midwives, the practice of midwifery and the effects these have. Birthrate Plus® has always recognised that midwifery is a dynamic profession.
The independent review of Birthrate Plus® led by Birte Harlev-Lam OBE this year endorsed the underpinning methodology, as was noted by Baroness Amos’s Interim Report. We are in the process of enacting a series of further enhancements to the methodology to ensure it continues to fully reflect women, birthing people and service needs.
